Fractal Ecosystem Grant Evaluation Matrix

Learn more about the Ecosystem Grant Evaluation Matrix

All Fractal Grant applications are evaluated against the Fractal Ecosystem Grant Evaluation Matrix.

Here, we will attempt to demystify the process behind selecting and rewarding projects that make an impact on the Fractal network. Transparency and fairness are core principles of our grants program, and this page outlines the criteria we use to evaluate projects, ensuring we support those driving real value for the Fractal ecosystem.

What Are Fractal Ecosystem Grants?

Fractal Ecosystem Grants are designed to reward builders, developers, and creators who are innovating and delivering results on Fractal.

These retroactive grants recognize projects that have already demonstrated meaningful contributions to the network, empowering them to continue growing and achieving milestones.

Abstracted Evaluation Criteria

Our evaluation framework considers both development progress and community engagement, using a tiered scoring system that assesses factors such as code contributions, technical adoption, scalability milestones, and community outreach.

Evaluation Aspects

    • Does the project introduce new ideas or methods to the Bitcoin and Fractal ecosystem?

    • Does it leverage Fractal’s unique capabilities (e.g., recursive scaling, OP_CAT, or fast transactions)?

    • Examples: Cutting-edge tools, groundbreaking use cases, or creative implementations of native Bitcoin protocols.

    • How well is the project executed? Is it technically robust and secure?

    • Does it demonstrate a deep understanding of the Fractal protocol and Bitcoin fundamentals?

    • Examples: Quality of code, architecture, and compatibility with the Fractal network.

    • How well does the project engage and involve the Fractal and Bitcoin communities?

    • Has it driven adoption or awareness?

    • Examples: Hosting events and hackathons, creating educational content, or fostering meaningful user interaction.

    • Does the project provide tangible benefits to the Fractal ecosystem?

    • How does it enhance Fractal’s functionality, adoption, or reputation?

    • Examples: Boosting liquidity, onboarding new users, or creating essential infrastructure.

Allocation and Processes

  • Retroactive Rewards: Grants are awarded based on past contributions, ensuring that the impact has already been demonstrated.

  • Milestone-Based Funding: Projects may reapply or receive additional funding as they achieve significant milestones in their journey.

  • Custom Weighting: While the default weighting is shown above, each evaluation cycle may vary slightly depending on the project type (e.g., infrastructure vs. community initiatives).

  • Rolling Grants: Projects may receive grants throughout the grants period, as applications are reviewed and milestones are met.

Transparency and Feedback

At Fractal, we value transparency and are committed to sharing the evaluation process openly with the community. While individual project scores remain private to ensure fair evaluation, we encourage feedback and discussions about our process on our feedback board.
